FIRE SAFETY IN FORESTS
The vast majority of forest fires occur due to the careless handling of fire by people or their violation of fire safety requirements when working and relaxing in the forest. Statistics say that 9 out of 10 forest fires are caused by humans.
On weekends, the number of fires in the forest reaches 40 percent of their number in a week; up to 93% of all fires occur in a 10-kilometer zone around settlements, the most visited by the population.
Most wildfires start from bonfires that are lit for warmth, cooking, repelling midges, and even just for pampering.
In recent years, young people resting in nature have become a particularly numerous army of arsonists. Many fires are caused by smokers who throw unextinguished matches and cigarette butts into the forest. Also, forest fires can arise from other causes, for example, from smoldering rusty wads, unextinguished cigarette butts thrown out of train windows, from sparks from engine exhaust pipes, etc. Being in the forest, it must be remembered that the danger of a forest fire from an insignificant source of fire is quite real, especially in dry warm windy times.
Natural factors, due to which a forest fire can start, are dry thunderstorms, spontaneous combustion of forest debris, etc.
If a fire is detected in the forest or near the forest floor, litter, rags, logging remains, the main task is to prevent the fire from gaining strength and spreading. To do this, put out the fire, carefully inspect the place of burning and make sure that there are no burning centers left. In cases where it is not possible to extinguish the fire on your own, you must inform the fire service or the forestry.
When visiting the forest, you should stop smoking. But if you smoke, you need to know that it is dangerous, especially in coniferous plantations, where there is little green grass and during the day last year's needles, lichens, grass, small twigs and other plant litter dry out a lot. Therefore, it is better to smoke in specially designated areas or areas suitable for making fires and smoking. You should not smoke in the forest on the move, as there is always a danger of automatically throwing a burning match or cigarette butt towards the side, and as a result, a fire, which the culprit may not be aware of.
Discipline in the forest, conscious behavior and strict observance of simple fire safety rules will guarantee the preservation of forests from fires. This is in the interest of each of us.
